Lucia Syrah Susan's Hill 2010
Firm and complex, with a trim mix of loamy earth, dried berry, sage and cedar. Gets reined in towards the end, but should improve with short-term cellaring. Best from 2013 through 2022.Add winemaker's notes

The 2010 Syrah Susan’s Hill, from the top ridge in Pisoni, shows just how challenging the vintage is for Syrah. There is good purity in the fruit, but not enough sheer stuffing to balance the wine’s structural components, which results in an overall feeling of compactness. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2018.
Vivid purple. Pungent aromas of blueberry, Indian spices and dark chocolate, lifted by violet and cracked pepper. Bright acidity gives lift and definition to densely packed flavors of dark berries and candied flowers. This youthful, energetic syrah offers noteworthy precision and lift. Finishes with very good clarity and cut, leaving a smoky note behind.
