Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

For more than 80 years, the Louis M. Martini Winery has crafted world-class Cabernet Sauvignon from the exceptional vineyards of Napa and Sonoma counties. Our founder believed in a simple, honest premise: The best grapes make the best wines. Today, this legacy continues at the historic winery in the Napa Valley with an acclaimed collection of unforgettable Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Viticultural Notes: Our primary fruit source was Barrelli Creek Vineyard on the west side of Alexander Valley, a region winemaker Michael Eddy refers to as a hidden gem for Cabernet. The vineyard’s slopes and well-drained, gravelly soils help to build and maintain acid levels, a crucial component to premium Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2016 growing season was warm, dry and steady. Mellow temperatures throughout the spring and summer allowed grapes to ripen fully and evenly, allowing us to pick every block at optimum ripeness. The result was concentrated fruit of particularly high quality with rich flavors and complexity. Winemaker Notes: The grapes were harvested in the early morning to keep the fruit cool while it was destemmed and sent directly to tank. Individual lots were evaluated separately as they aged and then blended to allow the flavors to marry in barrel. Oak aging took place over a total of 18 months in a combination of French and American oak (32% new). Wine Profile: The 2016 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon continues the winegrowing and winemaking approach that has garnered consistent critical acclaim. Intense fruit flavors and subtle layers of spice and earth further distinguish our Alexander Valley Cabernet. Bold, dark fruit notes of plum and black currant mingle with hints of baking spice to create a layered palate. An ample amount of Petite Sirah from our historic Monte Rosso Vineyard provides added depth and structure to create a rich, full-body, with a lasting finish. Alcohol: 15.1% RS: 0.7 g/L TA: 6.1 g/L pH: 3.7

Alexander Valley, CaliforniaRobert Parker 97 points!!"The bigger, richer 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petite Sirah aged 16 months in 50% new French and American casks. This is a bigger wine and close to 2% higher in alcohol at 15.5%. There are 11,000 cases of this big, full-bodied, boisterous Cabernet Sauvignon that has a dense ruby/purple color, notes of underbrush, forest floor, tobacco leaf and oodles of blackcurrants and black cherries, with a touch of woodsmoke. The full-bodied wine hits the palate with a cascade of glycerin, fruit and purity. This is a beauty - dense, rich, and structured, but capable of lasting 20 or more years." -Robert ParkerFor more than 75 years, the Martini family winemakers have crafted world-class Cabernet Sauvignon wines from the exceptional vineyards of Sonoma and Napa counties. Louis M. Martini embodied a simple, honest premise: The best grapes make the best wines. Today, Michael Martini, third-generation winemaker carries on this tradition at the historic winery in Napa Valley with his range of unforgettable Cabernet Sauvignon wines.Enjoy Louis M Martin Cabernet Sauvignon with filet mignon, rack of lamb, venison, moussaka and aged cheeses.

One of the finest bargains in California Cabernet Sauvignon must be Louis M. Martini's outstanding 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma... Fabulously sweet aromas of black currants, licorice, and cedar soar from the glass of this medium to full-bodied wine. With silky tannins as well as surprising concentration, depth, and texture, this 2006 should drink well for 8-10 years. Now owned by the Gallo family, but still run by Michael Martini, the quality of these wines merits serious attention.
