Our Winemaker Excellent wines are not merely born, they are created. By soil, sun, rain and by the experience and skill of the Winemaker. Alex White is that person. Long & widely regarded as one of Australia's leading and most awarded winemakers (not to mention respected International wine judges), he repeatedly transforms the raw excellence of our premium fruit into something sublime and yet uniquely singular. Alex's attention to detail and striving for perfection is such that he involves himself in every strata of Lost Valley's journey from bud burst to bottled wine. The results are thankfully self evident. The Founders The name for Lost Valley Winery came about in a rather innocent fashion. The founders had been researching wine growing areas and sites for quite some time, when one winter's day in 1995 as they were travelling north from Melbourne, they instintively took a left turn, then another left, left again, and a right turn...into the most spectacular valley they'd ever seen - and yes, they were truly lost! As you can see from the images here, the Lost Valley does indeed look like the land that time forgot, one known by the locals as the "Valley of the Thousand Hills". Our Region Mention the words "high country" to an Australian and you'll evoke images of snow-capped mountains, proud brumby's running wild, trout-filled streams and hardy, independent people. What's more, because of the cool to cold climate and rich soils it also guarantees we can all enjoy the premium and singular wines that this region is consistently producing. Lost Valley Wines reflect this spirit of our unique GI Region - that of the "Upper Goulburn" part of the Central Victorian High Country. Read less

Vintage: 2006 02/24/2010

You will find that this wine is a great accompaniment for any meal where red wine is a must. With a rich, dense, crimson purple hue and elegant, luscious character you will certainly enjoy every drop. The perfectly ripened fruit and well structured oak shine through and give the wine a decidedly aristocratic nature. The palate is concentrated yet smooth with subtle, soft tannins running through big red berry fruit and more than a hint of white truffle chocolate. Spearmint and black pepper give the wine fine structure, balance and a lingering length. One could say that this is a perfect wine but you would have to make up your own mind about that. Aged for 15 months on French barriques and then prime American oak you will notice the superb balance and integrated oak is superb. This is a wine you can put away in your cellar for the next 15 years and enjoy when fully mature. Despite this you can drink it right now, just make sure to decant allow to breathe before you guests arrive. With a silver medal earned at the Fine Wine Asia - Singapore event you will be sure that this wine is not going to be available for ever. Grab a case or two today before you risk losing out on this fine wine.
