Livingston Moffett Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Gemstone Vineyard 2006

External Review:

Showy with its lavish oak shadings, it’s plush, with layers of currant, coffee, mocha, anise and mineral. Finishes with soft, fleshy tannins and a complex aftertaste. Drink now through 2007.

Livingston Moffett Winery is owned and operated by four Livingston Moffett family members who oversee vineyards (John Livingston), operations (Diane Livingston), winemaking (Mark Moffett) and sales (Trent Moffett). Located on the Napa/Rutherford AVA's at the site of an 1883 winery, the winery began production in 1984 with the release of its estate Moffett Vineyard Cabernet bottling. A second Cabernet, Stanley's Selection, has been produced since 1989 and is a blend of small, select Napa vineyards. More recently the winery has expanded into limited quantities of Chardonnay (Genny's Vineyard), Syrah (Mitchell Vineyard) and a Cabernet-based blend (Gemstone Vineyard). Total production varies between 5,000 and 6,000 cases annually. Consulting winemakers that have overseen production in the past have been Randy Dunn, G. Graham, John Kongsgaard and, presently, Marco DiGiulio. Read less

A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 1998 Livingston Moffett Cabernet Sauvignon Stanley's Selection 750ml

With a limited production of 435 cases, the 1998 Gemstone Vineyard is the finest Livingston offering I have tasted in many years. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as sweet aromas of cassis, licorice and oak. Full-bodied, fleshy, rich and pure, this mouth-filling effort possesses less aggressive acidity, and consequently less austerity. Consume it over the next 15 years.
