Editorial Reviews for Lake Sonoma Winery Chardonnay Russian River Valley
Caramel, vanilla and creme brulee grace the nose here along with some fennel seed and melony fruit. Broad, supple and yet juicy in the mouth ,this delivers some lovely green apple and melon flavors along with a fair dose of the caramel and creme brulee from the nose. It’s an open, easy drinking style that is fruit forward but with refreshing acids keeping everything lively and adding some bright lemon pith notes to the modest finish. easy to drink and unusually refreshing. The blend of caramel and acid gives this a bit or a cooked orange flavor. 86pts
Oaky on the nose, with plenty of toasted almond and vanilla but there’s plenty of fruit here as well with nice notes of nectarine, pineapple and lime, and a nice note of licorice root. A bit fat and slightly creamy but at the same time this sits rather high on the palate exhibiting lovely definition and a nice bit of cut. The flavors are just a touch indistinct but well balanced with the oak sitting just below the fruit. The backend shows really nice tension and the fruit begins to pop leaving a nice wash of nectarine and lime on the moderately long finish. This is really lovely, lacks a bit around the edges but it is a nicely complete wine. 90pts

Rating: 84/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Hesitant suggestions of grapefruit and sour orange in the nose are overlain by a hint of flowery sweetness, yet this wine never quite finds a true varietal voice. It has the texture and weight of Chardonnay, but it comes up short on positive fruit and is too soon cut off by citric tartness.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
Vibrant citrus and tropical fruit aromas layered with rich vanilla and a brioche foundation. Fruit flavors on the palate include green apple and nectarine, with a texture reminiscent of lemon custard.
Wine Tasting NotesFlavors of apple and pears complement the soft vanilla oak profile and crme brulee-like finish.
