Ladoucette Pouilly Fum 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Pale golden-green color. Considerable intensity on the nose. It has an exceptional full range of floral, exotic and citrus fruit aromas such as white blossoms, hawthorn, broom and white nettles and grapefruit. These notes are enhanced and strengthened by the mineral note of gunflint (flint stone heated by the sun). The flavor is pleasant and lively, tempered by a fruity roundness with notes of pear, green apples and citrus fruits, which boost the mineral and stony hardness of gunflint. The finish brings to mind a pleasant lemony freshness.

This bottle of wine was part of a lot I bought on the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/70129. Pouilly Fume is an AOC created in 1937 [although wine-making in the area goes back to at least the Romans and Benedictine monks had vineyards here in the 11th century] for white wines made of the sauvignon blanc grape from 8 communes around the town of Pouilly-sur-Loire. This is on the east bank of the Loire about 90 miles south of Paris and opposite Sancerre on the west bank.Domaine Ladoucette/Chateau de Nozet is a well known producer.I started my bottle last night with my supper of fish cakes and I did enjoy it.There is plenty of a pear and elderflower style fruit there with a little citrus although it is not that acidic. In short this is a lovely wine and a good accompaniment to the fishcakes.

Pure and well-detailed, with straw, chamomile, lemon thyme and mineral notes that glide through a creamy-textured palate. Long, stony finish.
