Kokomo Cuvée Ivy North Coast 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Tight on the nose with dried herb, pencil shavings, mushroom and vanilla base notes under rich blackberry and black currant fruit. There's a high level of toast to the nose as well. This is tight in the mouth, and while it's a bit low on acid, it's also well enough balanced to be a bit juicy in the mouth with a wash of lovely black fruit early on that picks up some cocoa and nutty nuances on the mid-palate and then a little black spice on the back end. This finishes with some dry tannins, and lightly extracted black fruit that is rich but not really sweet. This needs some time but the fruit here seems to be quite fresh and clear. Definitely interesting. 88pts

Started in 2004 with the production of a single vineyard Cabernet from Mounts Vineyard, Kokomo Winery focuses on single vineyard wines that show a distinct terroir. We believe that our small production techniques and relationships with growers allow us to make wines that are individual and unique as the vineyards they were born from. We think you should drink local and think global and we are proud to support causes we believe in located in Sonoma County, like the annual Harmony Festival, Art for Life, KRCB, Food for Thought and the annual Mayacama Celebrity Golf Tournament, just to name a few. In January 2008, we celebrated the opening of our brand new winery at Timber Crest Farms in Dry Creek Valley. Visitors to our winery will enjoy a unique wine tasting experience - we have incorporated the tasting room into our cellar. We are located on a beautiful 120 acre vineyard on the Dry Creek East Bench, and our estate fruit consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Primitivo, Muscat Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. Tasting Room Open Daily 11am - 4:30pm. Read less
