Kenwood Pinot Noir Rose 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley viticultural appellation. The Russian River empties into the Pacific Ocean, and serves as a channel for the cool ocean fog to move inland from the coast. Kenwood produces its Russian River blend from vineyards located off River Road, where the rocky soil and the ocean’s cooling influence create the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes. This full-bodied yet smooth Pinot Noir exhibits fruity aromas of strawberries and raspberries followed by subtle aromas of rose petals and fresh herbs. The viscous texture and supple tannins give way to a long, smooth finish. Composition: 99% Pinot Noir, 1% Syrah Appellation: 97% Russian River Valley, 3% Carneros Aging: 11 months in 1 to 3 year-old French oak barrels Alcohol: 14.5% www.kenwoodvineyards.com

Located in the heart of the Sonoma Valley, Kenwood Vineyards is dedicated to producing premium wines truly representative of Sonoma County’s world-class vineyards. Kenwood Vineyards was established in 1970 in the former Pagani Brothers Winery, a historic cellar dating back to 1906. Thoroughly refurbished and modernized, the facility now boasts more than 125 stainless steel fermenting tanks and large oak uprights, and 20,000 small French and American oak barrels, all devoted to Kenwood Vineyards’ “small lot” style of winemaking. In addition to the 22-acre vineyard surrounding the winery, Kenwood Vineyards sources grapes from dozens of vineyards – many farmed sustainably, using natural soil amendments and pest controls whenever possible rather than chemicals - in Sonoma County’s best appellations, including Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley and Sonoma Mountain. Each lot from each vineyard is kept separate throughout the winemaking process, enabling the winemaker to bring it to its fullest potential. This “small lot” or “cuvee” style of winemaking also enables the winemaker to draw on an exceptionally broad “palette” to assemble wines that showcase classic character, subtle complexity and superb balance. As a result, every Kenwood Vineyards wine – whether Table Wine Series, Sonoma Series, Reserve, Jack London Vineyard or Artist Series – is consistent in quality and consistently delicious. Read less

Nice spicy, peppery character to this pinot, almost like a pinot-zin hybrid. It has all the great qualities of a good Russian River pinot noir with that added bonus. Try it! P.S. It got even better and more complex the second day. It keep evolving and for the money, it's a great pinot!!

Nice subtle nose, aromas of dried cherries & cranberry with a splash of hay notes. Refreshing Pinot from the Russian River - enjoyed slightly cooled.

pas mal. and available at safeway in san francisco! i had this once before on christmas and loved it. the second time, in san francisco for new years. and it was not as good. maybe i bought the wrong year. or maybe it paled in comparison to the merlot i had just before. i will have to try it again and see. i bought another russian river pinot noir at the Ferry building for $35 dollars on recommendation from the manager there (trying to avoid the $45+ range) and it was so not worth it. guess you can't really judge wine by the price & region. in california anyway.

Not what I was looking for. Thin and a quick finish. Lacking in complexity. Too bad, as some fine Pinot Noir comes from the Russian River area.

Offers an earthy cherry-rhubarb edge, with mineral and spice flavors that are clean and pleasantly earthy, ending with a baked pie flavor and firm tannins. Drink now through 2013.

Strawberry, raspberry and black cherry flavors are bright, focused and concentrated, with modest tannin and a hint of toasty oak. Drink now through 2007.

Kenwood has done a very good job crafting a delicate, lighter-bodied Pinot that's rich in real varietal flavor. Polished cherry, cola, pomegranate, coffee, rhubarb and Asian spice flavors, with a balanced finish.

Fairly light in color and texture, with a blend of cherry and herb flavors couched in medium acidity. Finishes moderately, with hints of tea and earth. Drink now through 2002.

Wine Tasting NotesComplex aromas of dried cherries, figs and sage combine with vanilla notes from aging in French oak. Rich and full-bodied mouth feel followed by a long, lingering finish.

Breathe in the oak and apple wood smoke, breathe out the scents of cherry skin. This wine is tight and light in body, yet there's a gelatin thickness backing up the texture. The fruit is shut down and needs to grow into that texture - as it may well do over the coming year.
