Inniskillin continues to push the boundaries of icewine, as evidenced by with wood-aged Vidal. The vanilla and spice of oak barrels partially masks some of the stranger Vidal aromas, allowing the apricot and peach scents to come to the fore. There are some creamy lactic notes on the finish that detract slightly, but this is a very good effort at an entirely different genre.
The vidal Gold Icewine starts with an enticing nose of tropical fruit, honey and spice. Mouthfilling, intense flavors of peach, mango and apricot follow, balanced by crisp acidity. Clean but complex, the wine unfolds extravagantly on the palate. The wine can age and will intensify as time passes.
Beeswax, orange peel and dried apricot notes mark this aromatically intense dessert wine. Its sweetness is matched by bracing acidity, leaving a mouthwatering impression. Licorice aftertaste. Drink now through 2020.
