Honig Vineyard & Winery Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2018

Member Review by rckr1951:

Very good as always. Petrol, melon, citrus, lanolin and stone fruit on the nose lead to tantalizing, mouthwatering finish with plenty of minerality and acidity. Drink now - Paul 89 poits

In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1981, as a tribute to his legacy, the family rallied together to produce several hundred cases of Louis Honig Sauvignon Blanc in the vineyard's old tractor barn. The wine won a Gold Medal at the Orange County Fair, and thus, the winery was born. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery. With a lot of hard work and a beat up pickup truck, Honig managed to get their Sauvignon Blanc into most fine restaurants in California. From there, production and distribution grew. In 1987, in addition to the Sauvignon Blanc for which they were already known, they began producing small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon. Family members Regina Weinstein joined them in 1997 and Steven Honig in 2000. Read less

really like this one. Intricate carbonation, really explores the corners of your mouth. Fun all the way down

Great everyday white for the summer ... so I guess that makes it a great summer wine. :-)

Very good desert wine. Not overly sweet, has good acidity. Good balance with aromas of apricot and honey. Tastes range from apricot, honey, leche and grapfruit. Lovely wine.

TASTING NOTES: Bright, and fresh. The flavors and aromas are reminiscent of peaches, lemon curd, white grapefruit, and passion fruit with perfectly balanced notes of citrus, stone fruit. The fullness of the mid-palate is complemented by a crisp, lengthy finish. VINEYARD: The fruit for this wine comes from our sustainably farmed vineyard in Rutherford, as well as other nearby vineyards. WINEMAKING: The Sauvignon blanc grapes are treated using two different methods. To enhance the delicate tropical fruit flavors, a portion of the fruit goes directly into the press as whole clusters. The remaining fruit is de-stemmed and left in contact with the skins for several hours before pressing, amplifying the grapefruit/citrus components. All of the juice is fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks using a variety of yeast strains selected to bring out the aroma and flavor profiles of Sauvignon Blanc. AGING: Aged on light lees, in stainless steel tanks, prior to blending and bottling. FRUIT: 92% Sauvignon Blanc 7% Semillon 1% Muscat

Tasting Notes: Bright acidity lends a crisp freshness to the flavors of peach, passionfruit, and lemongrass, artfully balanced by a touch of freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime. Juicy and refreshing, with aromas of jasmine, peach, and grapefruit rind. Medium-bodied, with a lingering finish. WINEMAKING: The Sauvignon blanc grapes are treated using two different methods. This white offers lip-smacking acidity to accentuate the crisp lemon, Key lime pie and ruby grapefruit flavors at its core. Smooth and refreshing, accented by floral and honeysuckle details. Drink now.

Flowery and electric in high-toned grapefruit and peach, this is a crisp, clean white from a consistent producer. Medium-bodied, it holds small percentages of Sémillon and Muscat. The finely hewed texture benefits from 10% of the wine having been aged in neutral oak.
