Havens Wine Cellars Merlot Carneros 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Dark red. Aromas of red cherry plum tobacco currant leaf mint . . . Supple soft and pliant claret-like red currant tobacco and game flavors with a light vegetal nuance. [89 ps Stephen Tanzer] The sexy soft cherry cola smoky-scented medium bodied lush 2001 Merlot is best consumed over the next 4 to 6 years. [89 pts Robert M. Parker Jr.]

Wine Advocate ReviewLonger and richer than its predecessor, the 2005 Merlot Napa exhibits aromas of chocolate, berry fruit, underbrush, and spice box.Wine Tasting NotesOur Napa Valley Merlot is now full and luscious, in a sense the most classic style for Napa Valley. This wine is destined to be a crowd-pleaser, offering a juicy, rich mouth-feel and varietally true black fruits. Yet the tannins are round and mouth filling, so the resulting wine on the palate is still balanced. It answers firmly that a rich wine can be complex, nuanced and elegant.
