Georges Dubœuf Régnié 2007
Deep, radiant ruby color, so typical of classic Brouilly. Intensely perfumed, offering a whirl of richly concentrated, jam-like fruits, such as damson plum, strawberry, peach and red currant. The texture is opulent and velvety. Brouilly is at its best while in the fullness of youth.

Julienas produces elegant and spicy wines from a region that gets its name from Julius Ceasar! This is dusty and mineral with a big bay leaf tone and a touch of seared beef but it lacks some liveliness. On entry this is fiercely acidic for this ripeness yet very simple with big black fruits. This finishes with some chemical notes and I can't say that there's much here for me to like. 80pts
'A light French red made from gamay grapes grown in southern Burgandy. Raspberry and plum scents lead through a light, succulent palate that finishes soft and refreshing. Served lightly chilled, it's great with cold cuts, pates and the like' (Ralph Kyte-Powell, Delicious, December 2008/January 2009).
Not a terrible wine, but not a good one. Somewhat spicy -- and inexpensive! Definitely better when you're comfortable drinking a cheap wine to get drunk.
Keep in mind I am reviewing this 2007 Beaujolais Nouveau in mid 2009. Way past its prime. I picked this up as well as the 2006 from my local grocery store for the amazing price of $4.50 each. They still have plenty more. The fruit that once was in this wine has long since turned to a vinegar and water taste. I have no doubt it would have been very good if drank within 6 months of coming out but 2 years is a bit much. Needless to say I have a pretty substantial headache the next day.
Rating 84 fruity nose that is short lived. Typical fruity simple Beaujolais style. You must be a Beaujolais fan to appreciate this. How WS could rate this that high is beyond me. Do they really go blind on the tastings?
Ouch - some harsh ratings given by the other tasters. I thought the wine was plain, and had a Boveril / yeasty nose, but that there were some highlights, including a very nice creamy texture. Cherry fruits that worked well with the leather tones. It was tight and had a tart finish, so a little air would help.
Much maligned, Beaujolais Nouveau is not supposed to be a 'serious' wine. Its just a few months old - the grapes are picked, its fermented for a few days, and then its bottled and on your table. Take it as it is - simple, fruity, fun - and seasonal. Dont save it. This wine doesnt age well.
Beautifully balanced between sweet strawberry and a slight vanilla spice that stays long in the mouth. Excellent value Beaujolais.

A disappointing effort from this normally reliable estate, the 2001 shows hints of raisin and leather on the nose and slightly cooked black cherry flavors along with a supple mouthfeel.
Saturated cherry, chocolate and cassis notes weave throughout this medium-bodied, firmly structured Morgon that has density and a lingering finish, Drink now through 2001.
An intense Beaujolais light-years away from the thin quaffers you may have experienced. Signature features are its dark purple color, raspberry bouquet, and lively palate. Drink it and you will know why this single-estate Morgon is regularly singled out as one of the heartiest and best Beaujolais wines.
Effusively and sweetly fruity as usual, the 2009 Morgon Jean Descombes (tasted from tank) is scented with creme de cassis, black raspberry preserves and pear liqueur; silkenly saturates the palate with rich yet infectiously juicy fruit concentrate; and introduces a saline note that along with its sense of juicy freshness makes for a stimulating finish. This perennially outstanding value will probably pick up more complexity over the next 12-18 months and be worth following for at least twice that long. (That said, in the form of La Chaponne and Mont Chavy, Jean Descombes has, for a change, got serious competition in this vintage from within the Duboeuf portfolio.)
Light tannins and a smoky mineral note frame this lush red, which displays layers of black cherry, raspberry ganache and tea rose flavors. There's a spicy thread running through the wine, leading to a fresh, firm finish.
Cinnamon and vanilla notes weave through the copious amounts of black cherry and blackberry fruit, with a fleshy, brambly finish that should unwind right in time for Thanksgiving dinner. Drink now through 2002.
