Frog's Leap Zin 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Varietal intensity is an easy goal to set as winemakers, but it is nonetheless one often missed by today's Zins. This hits the mark immediately, with aromas of cardamom and clove mixing with the classic Zinfandel qualities of wild berry and brambly fruits. Across the palate the wine continues to reveal layers of fruit and earth that range from cherry and plum to cigar box and leather. The resolved tannins and plush texture complete a Zin that is both rich and quaffable. This wine has always been the chameleon of the table, so try it with anything. It is sure to please.

Full bright red. Red currant, spice cake and nuts on the nose. Soft and supple but a bit generic, with gentle flavors of red fruits and spices. Finishes with dusty tannins, moderate persistence and a hint of edgy acidity.

This is a straightforward, dark ruby/plum-colored 1999 offering cherry, raspberry, and briery fruit, plenty of spice, medium body, a narrow texture and good freshness and vibrancy. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.

This Zinfandel is a classic field-blend revealing the vitality of Zinfandel and the depth of Petite Sirah. The first sensations are aromas of cinnamon and clove which underscore the rich layers of dried ranberries and wild berry. Lush layers of cherry and boysenberry delight the palate while subtle nuances of oak and earth never overwhelm. Bright acid balances soft tannins resulting in a plush, lingering finish. This Zinfandel complements a meal or is delicious on its own.

A firm textured Zin, with fairly smooth tannins that frame a core of herb, plum, cherry, coffee and toast flavors. A touch of spice adds to the blend, with a bright, tangy edge giving extra life to the finish.

Elegant, with cool climate berry fruit presented in a tangy, medium-bodied style, this fresh Zinfandel offers an antidote to those big, heavyweight bruisers. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.

Fashioned as a claret, this wine smells like a classic Zin, purely California, deliciously fresh. Sweet spices provide significant complexity, the dark-toned fruit touched by scents of tobacco, sassafras and jasmine. It's full in texture without feeling weighty, bottled summer to brighten a winter night.
