Finca Sandoval Syrah Blend Manchuela Salia 2009
Made of 50% Syrah, 37% Garnacha and 13% Alicante Bouchet (similar to Grenache), this delicious blend was tasted and loved by our staff. Salia is a Spanish red which is suave and silky with red and purple fruit flavors, and complexities of red roses, spice and licorice. It has very good length and smooth, chewy tannins.
Three and a half glasses
Really opens up nicely. Funny, the first aromas in my nose were sea coast/fishy- which made for a bit of trepidation on the first taste. The wine fully jolted me when I tasted it, though. Beautiful color-great with venison.
Deep purple in color (intense). Nose of barnyard, and red fruits with a hint of dark spices. Firm tannins and medium acid in the mouth. While flavors of big fruit, plum, cherry, blackberry, and smokey oak all mingle on the palate. Really a fun wine. 4/5 [NR]
perfect wine to start your Spanish collection with.

The unfiltered 2009 Salia is a blend of 49% Syrah, 30% Garnacha Tintorera and 21% Garnacha Tinta that was aged nearly a year in a combination of French and American oak. This outstanding, full-bodied, fleshy red offers up notes of kirsch, black cherries, black currants and licorice intermixed with loamy soil undertones. It is an impressive, ridiculously low priced beauty that should drink well for 3–4 years.
Well-integrated, this subtle, lightly tangy red offers flavors of cassis, persimmon and sweetbread, with hints of salumi and graphite. Moderate finish. Drink now.
Bright violet color. Pungently aromatic, with powerful aromas of cassis, smoky minerals, cracked pepper, violet and olive. Deeply pitched dark berry flavors show a blend of power and vivacity and become sweeter with air. Spicy notes build on the finish, which is chewy, gently tannic and long. Definitely give this wine some air.
Inky ruby. A complex bouquet offers red berries, cherry, rose and baking spices. There's a lively character here that reminds me a bit of ripe pinot noir. Juicy and open-knit, with gently sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and good spine. Finishes with gentle tannins and very good clarity, repeating the spicy note.
The entry-level 2008 Salia is a blend of 50% Syrah, 38% Garnacha Tintorera, and 12% Garnacha Tinta that went through malolactic in barrel and was aged for 11 months in seasoned French and American oak prior to bottling without fining or filtration. Mineral, blueberry, black cherry, smoke, and floral notes form the nose of this dense, succulent, layered red. It has enough structure to evolve to 2ndash;3 years but can be approached now. It is an outstanding value that over-delivers in a big way.
A bit of dark chocolate, juicy and open-knit, the wine boasts gently sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and good structure. Finishes with gentle tannins and very good clarity, repeating the spicy note.
A spicy base of cedar and tobacco leaf is layered with subtle notes of damson plum, ripe black cherry and cassis in this supple red that's well-integrated and refined from start to the bresaola-tinged finish. Drink now through 2018.
