Felsina Vin Santo Chianti Classico 2010
This opens with a huge bay leaf and vanilla bubblegum tone, the oak here is still obvious with very little fruit in evidence though there are nice tones of earth, tobacco, and prosciutto fat adding some complexity. The texture is creamy and velvetty with lowish acidity and finely polished tannins. The core or bitter black cherry fruit remains with and edge of leather and bitter almond adding some complexity. The texture here is absolutely fascinating though the oaken flavors that accompany the creaminess are a bit much. The softest, oakiest Fontalloro. 87ptsAdd winemaker's notes

Effusive aromas of vanilla, toffee, coffee crema soar from the glass with deep tones of dried apricot, smoky caramel and butterscotch and a lurking edge of bitter orange peel flambe. In the mouth this retains impressive power yet has fine balance with a thick yet neither cloying or overly sweet character that has lovely depth to it's slightly bitter burnt sugar note and extremely long finish of honey dipped apricot kernels, dried peach and amaretto crunch. Really drinking well and so much better than a bottle 4 years ago. Absolutely delicious 94pts
Yellow gold color in the glass with aromas of roasted nuts, caramel and a bit of nail polish remover. On the palate this was rich and thick but not too much going on beyond the nuttiness and well balanced acid to sweetness. This does have a good structure and so I'm hoping that time will unlock more secondary flavors. I wont touch another bottle for at least five years.
Great with biscotti to dip
Three and a half glasses
I think I love Vin Santo, the biggest reason is the number one thing, the few I’ve had really remind me of my Grandfather’s pipe smoke. Amazing what childhood memories do to you. The nose on this was candy sweet with layers of spices and wood. Fruitcake and maple syrup. Then you sip it and the sweetness is nowhere near as prevalent as you’d expect. Instead you taste caramel, peach, clove and cinnamon spice. All carried by a lush full-bodied frame that manages to melt away to a refreshing and clean finish. You could spend the whole night just smelling this glass.

The 2004 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is fabulous. A reference point wine for the region, the 2004 captures the heart and intellect with its superb balance and pure pedigree. The style is moderately sweet and oxidative, in the best of the Vin Santo tradition. Savory herbs, dried flowers, leather and lightly burned sugar add complexity on the finish. Vin Santo? Felsina remains one of the 2–3 reference points, it’s as simple as that. As for the 2004, well, it is utterly majestic.
The 2004 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is stunningly beautiful. This is a fairly restrained vintage for the Vin Santo in which some of the wine’s more oxidative qualities are less evident than in other years. Orange peel, burnt sugar, dried flowers and herbs wrap around the generous, inviting finish. Despite its nearly 8 years of age, the 2004 remains very young, with a bright life ahead of it. The wine needs several hours if opened today. Felsina’s Vin Santo is 55% Malvasia, 25% Trebbiano and 20% Sangiovese, aged 7 years in the traditional small Vin Santo casks. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2024.
Golden yellow, with coppery highlights. Peach, apricot, pineapple and tropical fruit aromas.Consistency on the palate, softness and elegance nicely structured by the oak barrels.Wine with great balance, favorable acidity and a well-harmonized residual sugar. Long in the mouth.
Bright, pale yellow-gold color. Pear and peach nectar along with strong nutty, caramel, honey and raisin aromas on the nose. Dense, tactile and harmonious, with an exotic candied sweetness to the flavors of dried apricot, toffee and vanillin oak. This wine’s long, smooth finish and lush, pliant texture give it immediate appeal. Much better than the 2003.
Leuchtende Bernsteinfarbe.
This dessert wine comes from the Chianti Classico zone of Tuscany. I'ts made by first air-drying the grapes for 7 months. Then there's fermentation in small casks for 7 years. The result is this nutty, sultan raisined, peach dessert wine that's sweet but balanced with meyer lemon acidity.
Felsina's 2000 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is a reference-point wine for the region. This rich Vin Santo flows onto the palate with coconut, spices, maple syrup and baking spices. The wine remains exquisitely balanced and deft, with a long, refined finish. For its Vin Santo, the estate uses the traditional Trebbiano and Malvasia, along with 20% Sangiovese, all of which is dried on mats until February of the following year when the fruit is vinified. The wine spent a total of seven years in 50 and 100 liter barrels. This is a Vin Santo of the highest level. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2020. Aromas of dried papaya, nuts and light caramel. Medium-bodied and medium sweet, with a clean, balanced palate and a nutty aftertaste. Drink now. 1,800 cases made. -JS
