Domaine Michel Mallard et Fils Grand Cru Corton Charlemagne 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The Corton-Charlemagne 2011 has a lovely light yellow color. On the nose, the wine is pure and expressive with complex notes of yellow fruits - pineapple, quince and peach. On the palate, the wine is rich but elegant with a long length. Powerful, matched with fresh yellow fruit and a certain minerality. "Our Corton-Charlemagne is situated on the lieu-dit LE CHARLEMAGNE. The type of soil is mostly composed with white marl and chalk. The blocks are situated at the top of the hill close to the forest. It is facing south, which means that it sees the sunrise and the sunset." -Michel Mallard. The Mallard parcel is considered to be among the very best areas of King Charlemagne's historic vineyard. The geographic situation provides excellent conditions to fully ripen the chardonnay grapes. Hand picked at the peak of ripeness. Sorted meticulously and whole bunches are pressed immediately. The juice goes directly into barrel. Fermented fully in barrel (One new, one old). Michel uses very little batonnage (stirring). The second fermentation is also in barrel. After 14 months in barrel the wine is racked and left alone for a couple of months in tanks. Bottling is done when the moon is going down by gravity. Michel's hands-off philosophy allows for a very pure expression of Corton-Charlemagne.
