Domaine Comte Armand Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"This is perhaps a bit more elegant than usual, it's certainly more elegant than either the 2005 or the 2006 versions and reminds me a bit of the 2001 aromatically. An expressive nose of red berry fruit, earth and a hint of spice merges into cool, precise and vibrant medium full-bodied flavors that are supported by firm but ripe tannins on the linear, long and palate coating finish. This is really a lovely '07 with good muscle and solid mid-palate concentration...91-93" BH 04/09 "Cuvee #1, from vines between 21 and 25 years of age: Good deep red. Very ripe aromas of dried fruits, spices and leather. Sweet and ripe in the mouth, with a slight rusticity to the redcurrant, iron and leather flavors, plus a repeating suggestion of dried fruits. Finishes with slightly tough tannins. This will be used to make a Pommard 1er Cru (87-89). Cuvee #2, from the Haut du Clos, 28- to 60-year-old vines planted on active calcaire and compact rocks: Bright, deep red. Pungent aromas of black cherry and crushed rock. Juicy, fine-grained and vibrant, with taut, penetrating cherry and rock flavors. This really coats the palate with flavor. Finishes very long and energetic, with firm tannins. Cuvee #3, from the Bas de Coteau, 32- to 77-year-old vines on fragmented rock: Deep red. More medicinal and less complex on the nose than the Haut du Clos. Dense and fat but reduced; in a fatter, almost massive style but with less tension and nuance than the Haut du Clos. Finishes broad and sweet, with suave tannins reaching the incisors. This is more horizontal, while the last sample is more vertical. A blend of the two: Medium red. Complex, expressive aromas of red berries, black cherry, licorice and minerals. Dense on entry, then fresh, broad and minerally, with superb concentration and persistence of fruit. Here's a blend where one plus one equals three! Superb, complete Pommard with a pliant texture but plenty of structure for a positive evolution in bottle...91-94" IWC 03/09
