Winemaker's Notes:

Location: The Russian River Valley, known as "America's Burgundy", located in the heart of Sonoma County. Soil: Volcanic, calcium-rich soil. Varietal: 100% Gewürztraminer. Winemaking: The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at an average of 50 F, and inoculated with VL-1 yeast, which partners with the grape to produce moreintense varietal floral and spicy aromas and flavors. Visual Aspect: Light golden color. Nose: Enticing aromas of grapefruit, citrus blossom and lychee are complemented by hints of spice and exotic fruit. Palate: Fresh fruit components of grapefruit and white peach create a lovely balance with the bright acidity of the wine. Smooth and supple, the lingering finish makes your mouth water for the next sip. DeLoach Vineyards pioneered Pinot Noir wine growing in the Russian River Valley when Cecil DeLoach, a firefighter from San Francisco with a passion for winemaking, first planted the grape in 1973. In 2003, DeLoach Vineyards was purchased by the Boisset Family from Burgundy, France, when Jean-Charles Boisset fell in love with the Russian River Valley on his first visit to the area, immediately recognizing the similarities between Sonoma County and Burgundy: each boast a confluence of river, mountains, and soil that is perfect for growing world-class Pinot Noir. A recognized authority on biodynamic, organic, and sustainable winemaking, the Boisset Family had been using these eco-friendly practices in their estate vineyards in Burgundy and understood the positive effects they had on the health of the land and the quality of the wine. In 2004 the family brought that vision here to DeLoach Vineyards. Showing our dedication to the environment, we tore up award-winning, highly-lauded vineyards after the 2004 vintage and replanted with cover crops designed to revitalize the soil. New vines were planted in 2006, and the first vintage grown with biodynamic farming techniques will be the eagerly-awaited 2010 vintage. In the meantime, we continue to produce world-class wine by partnering with winegrowers who are equally dedicated to and passionate about eco-friendly farming practices and the production of high-quality wines of distinction. At DeLoach Vineyards, we focus on small-lot winemaking, giving exceptional care and attention to our Russian River Valley, O.F.S. and Vineyard Designate wines. Our passion is Pinot Noir - the noble variety of Burgundy that demands a delicate, labor-intensive process to showcase the exceptional terroir and complexity of the Russian River Valley and beyond. The diligence required to produce truly original, terroir-driven Pinot Noir is given to each wine that we craft. In keeping with our Burgundian Heritage, we use French open-top wood fermentors for all of our Russian River Valley, O.F.S, and Vineyard Designate Pinot Noirs, as well as our old-vine Zinfandel. We also practice hand punch-downs, known as pigeage -- another Burgundian winemaking tradition.
