Crios de Susana Balbo Cabernet Argentina 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate Review Rated 90 The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 9 months in one-year-old French and American oak and was bottled without fining or filtration. Purple-colored, it reveals an expressive perfume of cedar, spice box, black currant and black raspberry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied wine with lots of savory black fruit, enough structure to evolve for 1-2 years, excellent balance, and a long, fruit-filled finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Wine Tasting Notes Intense, dark ruby color with enticing aromas of ripe, black plums and black currants. The richly textured plum and currant flavors are joined by accents of dark chocolate and some vanilla-scented oak. The ripe, vibrant tannins give the wine beautiful structure and an amazingly long finish. This is a big wine for just a little money. Drink it now or over the next few years to enjoy the fruit flavors at their best. It will pair well with traditional Cabernet-friendly foods like grilled or roasted meats.

Dominio del Plata is a family-owned and run project of Susana Balbo (Enologist) and Pedro Marchevsky (Viticulturist). The core philosophies that they share, and that figure prominently in the production of their wines, are the following: Precision Viticulture This is a grape-growing philosophy that demands attention to detail, however small. The planting of the vineyards, varietal selections, vineyard management systems, water management, canopy conduction, sanitary precautions and harvesting decision are all managed personally by Pedro and Susana in order to achieve the highest quality standards. Sustainable Agriculture The entire project is specially designed and implemented in a way that doesn’t harm the natural resources, preserves the environment, functions according to social requirements, and at the same time maintains productivity in order to remain economically competitive. Superior Winemaking Skills Our winemaking skills and professional knowledge have been developed over more than two decades through intensive and prolonged education and research. From this accumulated knowledge, we have designed and constructed a winery that employs state-of-the-art enological technology for the processing of grapes and therefore the production of high-quality wine. Love and Passion Knowledge and experience are not the only keys to successful winemaking. Every step of top-quality wine production demands a love and a passion for the winemaking process in order to obtain a successful result. The dedication and diligence of our entire family working in the vineyard, in the winery and for the marketing of the wines gives the company its unique character. The constant search for perfection and the appreciation for fine wine, as well as our relationships with the people that contribute to the success of the winery, is physically embodied in the beauty of the Dominio del Plata Winery. One of those wine club shipments that turned out to be quite a nice suprise - lots of lovely dark fruit and smooth tannins. I'd buy again.

Lots of brawn now, so let it harmonize fully with short-term cellaring. Best from 2003 through 2005.

The minty blackberry-scented 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon has a personality that, while possessing admirable qualities, is tightly wound and ungiving. Drink it over the next 5 years.

Bright ruby-red. Blackcurrant and graphite on the nose. Sweeter and softer than the 2003 on entry, then more structured on the back half, but with a lovely light touch. Bitter cherry and spice flavors seem more vibrant than those of the 2003. Finishes with very good length.

Forward and juicy, with lots of raspberry and boysenberry flavor backed by toast and mineral hints. Fruit-filled finish. Drink now.

Ripe and polished, with good cherry and currant fruit backed by sweet spice and toast notes. Therersquo;s a nice hint of briar on the finish. Drink now.

Bright red-ruby. Aromas and flavors of ripe currant, leather, smoke, baker's chocolate and dried herbs. Smooth, lush and ripe; a satisfying, seamless cabernet with fine-grained dusty tannins and nice length. This punches above its weight class.

A ripe, round, friendly style, with dark plum and cassis fruit wrapped inside a toasty mocha note. Drink now.
