Craggy Range Te Muna Martinborough Pinot Noir 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

A bright and deep rosey red. Fragrant aromatics of red fruits, plum, tree bark, a variety of flowers, spice and earth. 2009 is a year of seamless structure, satin tannins and gentle supporting acidity. The palate is pure, long, very finely textured. The lush mid palate holds a mix of red berries, violets, ruby grapefruit, liquorice and exotic spice. The wine finishes with length, poise and delightful focus. Food Match: Salmon, game birds, pork or lamb fillet Cellaring: Up to 7 years from vintage

The nose on this lovely wine opens with an array of fresh spring flowers, including rose and hibiscus, followed by fresh cut grass, red fruits, pre-ripe tomato and red bell pepper, then wafts of leather, tobacco, pine, menthol, cinnamon roll, vanilla and nutmeg. The palate launches with bright tangerine, accompanied by a citrus tang and a pleasant display of acidity. Grapefruit and orange add to the fruit medley, accompanied by hints of tomato, black pepper and green bell pepper, then notes of cut vines, turned earth, and severed floral stems. Fruit notes of blueberry and cherry emerge intermittently to add depth to the citrus. The long bright finish leads to a delightfully clean and zingy mouthfeel. This wine evolves in complexity and elegance over a full hour and a half.

The 2009 Te Muna Road Pinot Noir has an adorable ripe redcurrant, raspberry, wild strawberry and orange sorbet bouquet that soars from the glass. The palate has a ripe, caressing entry with rounded redcurrant and orange zest fruit and dares to show a... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
