Cornas la Geynale R. Michel 2005
External Reviews for Cornas la Geynale R. Michel
Rich, smoky aromas of dark berry preserves, plum and bitter cherry. Full and rich texture with spiced notes accenting lush fruit tones. Ends with firm tannins and the evolvement with age is promising.
Rich, smoky aromas of dark berry preserves, plum and bitter cherry. Full and rich texture with spiced notes accenting lush fruit tones. Ends with firm tannins and the evolution with age is promising. All of Michel’s wines exported to the US are unfiltered. The older they are, the more fine particles sit in suspension. Before consuming, stand the bottle upright one or two days (in a cool area, away from light) allowing gravity to settle the fine matter in the wine. Then before service, slowly decant the wine and leave all the unfiltered matter in the bottle.
1989 was a long dry summer, yielding robust spicy syrahs with ideal proportions for lengthy ageing. Robert Michel, propietaire of 5ha in Cornas of which La Geynale comprises1.5 ha of reddish brown rocks and sand, manages his vines by hand and interferes minimally in thei vinification process. The wine matures in small / mid-sized barrels and is bottled unfiltered.
