Concha Y Toro Merlot Xplorador 2009

Add your reviewI believe that, drinking lower-end wines helps keep the palate honest. When 90 Plus Wines reported a 90 point Parker scoring for this second-from-the-bottom tier Casillero del Diablo offering from the capable people at Concha Y Toro, my parsimonious (but suspicious) side took note. The wine does indeed have good depth of color and a nice plum-like nose with a touch of cake spice. However, the entry is not entirely pleasant at first with a certain acerbic and rubbery note that puts all out of balance. An hour later, and the wine settles down to a nicely balanced rich and plummy wine hitting above its weight class. Not 90 points, but excellent value nonetheless.

Sattes, leuchtendes, tiefes Rot. Aromen nach Brombeere und Pflaume mit einem Hauch von Pfeffer, Vanille und Röstaromen nach Eiche. Fein und gut strukturiert, vollmundig mit Nuancen nach Gewürzen, Pflaumen und Holznoten.

A plush Merlot, with a nice core of plum flavors and a good herbal edge. Finishes on a slightly sweet note. Drink now through 1999.

Rubinrot mit Violettreflexen. Aromen nach Kirschen, Pfeffer und Kakao. Elegant, voller Körper mit einem anhaltenden Abgang.

Violet red in the glass; flavors of herbs, berries and pepper are apparent in the palate. The wine is soft, medium-bodied, rounded and harmonic with a persistent finish. Very smooth, this affordable sipper provides forward fruit and easy drinkability, while a touch of Carménère offers structure and longevity.

Ripe, well balanced fruit highlighted with enticing chocolate, coffee and black plum aromas and flavors. This is the wine to have with that Porterhouse you've been craving.

Bright, soft berry and grapey fruit, with a fresh vanilla- and chocolate-tinged finish. From Chile. Drink now.
