Coho Pinot Noir Russian River Ranch Retail 45.00 Ggwc 39.99 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Smoky herbal aromas join ripe plum and wild berry notes and an earthy leathery baseline that gives the tannins a drying sensation.

Coho is a winery founded in 2002 by Brooks Painter and Gary Lipp in Napa, California. The name has several meanings: It represents the species of salmon native to the region, which were revered by local indigenous people of the Pacific basin from California to Japan, symbolizing wisdom and generosity. Coho habitat preservation is a charity important to Painter and Lipp, who also occasionally produce wines in partnership with these causes. Their commitment to them was inspired by the Celtic legend known as the “Salmon of Knowledge.” The high quality wines are produced throughout Napa and Sonoma, and are available only through limited allocation by mailing list or auction.  Read less

Winemaker Notes - The Coho 2008 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir has perfumed, deep black cherry and crisp cranberry aromas, with hints of fragrant dried rose petals, cinnamon and cigar box. The wine is rich with forward fruit and focused Pinot aromas coupled with supple tannins and a lush texture on the finish. The Green Valley area of the Russian River Valley is famous for its cool climate and sandy-loam Goldridge soils that provide excellent drainage and low soil fertility. This combination produces Pinot Noir with a distinct intensity of fruit aroma and bright flavors.
