I was delighted when I tasted this subtle, warm and engaging, medium-bodied wine. It is not as stark and simple as a Cotes du Rhone, though in the character of the fruit, it resembles one, to a degree. I like it better; it seems more substantial. This will not earn 90 points on anyone's scale but it is welcoming and a good accompaniment to red meat or ratatouille, say. The label is artistic and attractive as well.

Very good. Medium to heavy body, awesome tobacco finish. Should be better in a couple of years. But Minervois is NOT a variety people, it is a sub-appellation within the Languedoc. The wine should consist primarily of a good chunk of Mourvedre and Syrah, with some Carignane as well.

WOW! More than a little dust on this bottle when i came upon it! My partners think this little number was opened a year (ish) ago but i had to take my chances after the bars were all "Not after 2, mon frere!" Here's the caveat: the bottle WOULD NOT fit in the microwave! But fear not: a common mixing bowl is actually quite up to the job of delivering wine to the palette with maximum bottleshock (a little free swim helps the tannins shed their water wings and add some real nuance!). Truth be told, this wine was a bit heavy. And don't get me started with the legs! On the wine I mean -not the pair between which my head is presently poised lustily. A little spin on the microwave's turntable brought all the fruit right up to the nose! Hella ballsy notes of cherry, cedar and lace appear when the temperature is brought up to 49 C. Fruit forward but not a cheap screw. Don't be impatient, though. Turn the power setting down on your nuker (3, 4 MAX!) and take....your...time! It's always worth an extra minute to make a good glass great!



Tasting Notes:

Chateau Vaissiere is located in the heart of the Minervois AOP in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in southern France. This winery is named after the old pre-romanesque church which sits in the middle of a large vineyard about 3 km west of Azille. The red wines of this region are rustic full bodied wines made from the Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvédre, and Syrah grapes. Chateau Vaissiere is no exception, a hearty wine with gripping tannins which is an excellent match with country stew and all manner of country style dishes. THIS WINE ROCKS IT!!!!
