A grand cru is a matter of origin in time as in space. The Château Palmer style is embedded in history and dedicated to the expression of its terroir. It is a style beyond fashion and trends. To experience its timelessness, there is no better way than to taste it. Again and again. Finesse and elegance, typical of the great wines of Margaux, are the permanent trademarks of Château Palmer, characterized by the softness and refinement of silk, the warmth of velvet, and the leather of noblesse. The unusual combination of grape varieties – as much Merlot as Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Petit Verdot – gives Château Palmer a bouquet of extraordinary complexity, with fruit, flowers, and spice wrapped in a fleshy and generous structure. The subtle balance between aromatic richness and powerful yet always restrained tannins makes Palmer a wine of incomparable charm, even when very young. Its length leaves the persistent memory of a heady mix of sensations and emotions. Long barrel ageing is essential for Château Palmer to give full expression to its gravely soil and reveal all its body and flesh. This ageing continues very slowly for many years and even decades in the bottle. Your patience will be generously rewarded when you taste an old vintage. It exudes a particularly rich and complex aromatic finish, sometimes exotic, always unforgettable. Wine tasting is a meeting of two living bodies as they surrender to each other, the human being and the wine. Tasters always have expectations from the wine they choose: good wines meet them; Château Palmer exceeds them. Read less

Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Palmer 09 has a really vivacious sumptuous bouquet

One of the all-time great Palmers (along with the 1961 1966 1970 1989 2000 and 2005) the 2009 Palmer is a blend of 52% Merlot 41% Cabernet Sauvignon and a whopping 7% Petit Verdot that came in at close to 14% natural alcohol. An opaque blue/black color suggests a wine with thrilling levels of concentration and intensity and that-s exactly what a taster gets. Subtle smoke incense and Asian spice (soy?) notes interwoven with graphite blueberry blackberry and cassis characteristics lead to a full-bodied phenomenally concentrated viscous opulent wine with plenty of sweet tannin. This sensational Palmer reveals even more floral notes than vintages such as 2005 and 2000. It should drink well for 50 years. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Tasted at Chateau Palmer. 41% Cabernet Sauvignon 52% Merlot 7% Petit Verdot. Harvested between September 23rd and October 14th 2009. 13.80%. Deep red color throughout with a bright red rim. The nose is again beautifully perfumed with generous ripe red fruits including logan berry red currant and ripe raspberry. On the palate it is silky yet hugely structured. It shows great depth exceptional elegance velvety tannins and a great deal of freshness for how concentrated it is. This IS Palmer. Alex Lallos.
