Chateau Lafayette Reneau Chardonnay Seneca Lake Proprietor's Reserve 2008

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Super bright Chardonnay with an enticing luminescent straw gold color. Loads of lemon citrus and toasty oak on the palate and a long, silky, clean finish. Buttery and fresh, this white has the zippy freshness of a cool climate white along with a rich texture that fills the mouth.

This is a good example of what Finger Lakes Chards can offer: assertive, full-flavored Chardonnay flavors and layers of spice edged by a clean minerality. Balanced and offering a supple mouthfeel, the wine is both food friendly and elegant.

Select Chardonnay grapes harvested at full ripeness, fermented and aged ten months in new oak. Overtones of ripe pear and apple with subtle butterscotch; a perfect marriage of soft oak and fruit.

Extraordinary pale color. But there are plenty of vanilla and butter scents from barrel fermentation. Shows little except wood and some melony fruit. The finish is a bit sweet.

Exceptionally structured with skillful barrel nuances. The vibrant acidity is encompassed in the delightful fragrance of a primeval ripe forest and leads to a smooth finish of sweetened limes. A delight to the senses and a brilliant treasure.
