Château la Raze Beauvallet Red Bordeaux Blend Médoc 2009

Member Review by edub:

Nose of flowers and cherries, light, medium bodied, gains a bit volume with some air, but lacking, with tart fruit, and over powering dried up finish. Not a good value.

Chateau La Raze Beauvallet (beautiful valley) is a fantastic Domaine of 45 hectares, located in the heart of the Medoc peninsula between the ocean and the Gironde estuary. The Sourice family bought the Domaine 20 years ago and invested £1m to renovate the vineyards and the cellars. The Chateau was originally classified "Cru Bourgeois" in the 1930's and has recently been listed within the new Cru Bourgeois classification. Only 25% of Chateaux in the Medoc receive Cru Bourgeois status due to their wine quality. The vineyards of La Raze Beauvallet are planted on a mixture of soils (terroir) consisting of sand and gravel. The vinification, ageing and blending of the wine takes place in modern cellars with stainless steel equipment and a sophisticated temperature control system. The Sourice family, their winemaking team and Benoit Valerie Calvet use this state of the art equipment to great effect and should be proud of the success of this wine. Even with the best terroir and equipment a Chateau can only dream of making excellent wine, however a skilled team remain at the centre of the quality process. Each stage of a wines production process from the grape harvest, the fermentation and ageing through to the final blending have to be carefully managed by a member of the team. The result is a new style Medoc Claret that is soft, very fruity and easy to drink either straight away or, if stored properly, within 5 years of date of purchase. To avoid any cork taint problems, Chateau La Raze Beauvallet is now available in a Classic “Bordeaux Grand Vin” bottle sealed with the high-tech Stelvin screw cap. Read less

This excellent value in Cru Bourgeois combines an array of dark fruits on the nose with an array of red ones on the palate. The structure is pleasing and ripe yet maintains its essential Bordeaux flavors and textures.
