Chase Zinfandel St. Helena Hayne Vineyard 2007
As with Napa Cabs the '07 Vintage seems to be great for 100 year old Zin Vines! Complex nose of cedar, blackberries and blueberries. This zin is well structured with more tannins than you might be used to. Flavors of ripe blackberries and spice give way to nice subtle oak and a very long finish.
Jammy dusty nose. Complex jam with tight bright grainy finish. Amazing.

It starts in the nose with a blast of jammy raspberries; the first taste takes you on a journey of blackberry pie, plums and red, ripe currants. It keeps going with hints of oak, anise and cocoa on the back end. Smooth, balanced and elegant, once again, these 100 year old vines have produced a spectacular fruit bomb.
Big sweet fruit, blueberry confection especially, jumps out of the glass and lures you into tasting this wine. The wine has softened over the past six years, allowing the flavors of strawberries, raspberries, and spice to shine through. There are still some tannins but they are mild and round, making this wine a great match for barbecued chicken or pork this summer
This wine is seriously juicy! Ripe with fresh berries, the 03 has a powerful nose of fresh raspberry and cherry The fruit explodes with intense raspberries, cherries and blackberries. Deeply concentrated with layers of bright, ripe fruit and subtle hints of chocolate; it's a deep purple experience. With elegance and finesse, this Zin is smooth as silk yet, once again, appropriately balanced with a flavorful finish. Beautiful now, or hold for deeper result to 2009.

At S.E. Chase Family Cellars, we have a deep appreciation for old vines. Planted in 1903, the vines are head pruned, dry-farmed and are planted on St. George rootstock. The gravely soil combined with a slight slope consistently produces the most exuberant and expressive Zinfandel grapes in the Napa Valley. These unique grapes create one of the most robust Zinfandels from the Napa Valley region.
