Casa Castillo Monastrell 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"Casa Castillo’s 2010 Monastrell (100%) was produced entirely from estate-grown fruit and aged for 6 months in seasoned French oak. Underbrush, brier, blue fruit, and a hint of chocolate inform the nose of this firm, concentrated, intensely flavored effort. Nicely proportioned and lengthy..." WA 07/11 "Opaque purple. Aromas of blackberry, apricot, violet and smoky spices show an exotic quality. Sweet and supple on the palate, with very good clarity to the dark fruit, candied flower and spice flavors. Finishes with a strong element of exotic spices and very good chewy persistence...90" IWC 11/11 "A wine that drinks well past its price point, the 2010 Casa Castillo (Julia Roche E Hijos) Monastrell Jumilla is 100% Monastrell (aka Mourvedre), from sand and clay soils, that spent 6-months in 500-liter French oak barrels. Pure, clean, and rich, with copious vanilla-laced blackberry, licorice, sweet spice, wood smoke, and hints of herbs, this medium to full-bodied Jumilla is seamless and elegant on the palate, with no hard edges, excellent purity, and thrillingly polished tannin that keep the finish focused and straight. Very well done and a brilliant drink, it should continue to shine for 5-7 years...91" RR 10/12
