Caparzo Brunello 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

92 pts -Robert ParkerThe heat of the vintage seems to have filled out the 2003 Brunello di Montalcino very nicely. A sumptuous, beautiful wine, it offers layers of vibrant, ripe fruit intermingled with sweet toasted oak, revealing superb inner tension, poise and balance. The tannins are firm, but well-integrated. This wine was impressive both times I tasted it. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018.

Tenuta Caparzo:
The “Caparzo” name seems to originate from Ca' Pazzo, as seen in several ancient maps. The vineyards, cellars and all wine-making equipment were developed towards the end of the 1960s, with progressive adaptation and constant up-dating of both the land and the cellars. Innovative cultivation systems and, in particular, several clones are still experimented today on the estates - extending over an area of 190
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Scorched earth, vanilla and blue fruit on the nose. A nice balance between the acidity and abundant fruit is immediately apparent on first tasting. Full bodied with nice, though not great depth, this offering is balanced and tasty even though it lacks complexity. Nice with pizza, lasagna and other Italian tomato influenced entrees. Good bottle. 91.

Decent dry wine, very little aftertaste or nose, but smooth tongue.

90 points - Wine Spectator"Perfumed with plums, cherries and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with silky and firm tannins and a long finish. Tight and crisp now. Still needs some time. Best after 2011."

Aromas of slightly stewed cherry and berry, with hints of coffee bean, follow through to a full body, with plenty of fruit and a velvety, soft and round finish. Pretty and moreish. Best after 2009. 8,300 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator. A Sangiovese Grosso wine from Tuscany in Italy. 2003 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino 1500ml

The single-vineyard 2003 Brunello di Montalcino La Casa is simply gorgeous. Ripe dark fruit, spices, leather and sweet toasted oak all flow from this ample, generous wine.
