Calera Chardonnay Mount Harlan 2011
External Reviews for Calera Chardonnay Mount Harlan
Calera's entry-level Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards in the Central Coast, and represents an excellent value for the region. Deep fruit character and layered complexity not often found at this price point, very impressive.
Pale yellow in the glass with high-toned, tropical notes on the nose, along with spicy Asian pear. The palate is floral and expressive with hazelnut skin nuances and a waxy, textured weight. Calera produces organically grown Chardonnay grapes from the Mt. Harlan Vineyard. This wine is impressive for it's deft balance between bright fruit, crisp acid, and intriguing minerality.
The 2011 Chardonnay Mt. Harlan bursts from the glass with expressive apricots, peaches, crushed rocks, French oak and spices. Rich yet weightless, the 2011 is striking from the very first taste. Once again, Calera’s Mt. Harlan Chardonnay is world-class. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2018.
Josh Jensen brings his restrained hand to this very fine Chardonnay. It’s notable for the excellence of all its parts, and the balanced way they co-exist. You’ll find tantalizingly rich tropical fruit and peach flavors, with nuances of oak, as well as the minerality that the estate vineyard brings to all its wines, white and red.
