Burgans Albariño Rías Baixas Rias Baixas 2011
Burgans is made at the famous Bodega Martin Codax by Luciano Almoedo, perhaps the biggest advocate of the Albario varietal in Spain. Luciano was extremely influential in obtaining worldwide recognition for not only the varietal, but also Rias-Baixas. Today, the Bodega has grown considerably and is known as one of the most progressive in the zone. The use of wood is definitively eschewed at the Bodega in order to preserve the natural lift and minerality of the grapes. As such, the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with light lees stirring. The wine is blended by Eric Solomon, working in concert with the property, and is bottled in the spring after harvest.
Martín Códax is a winery that was founded by a group of Spanish winemarkers in 1986. It is in the capital of the Salnés Valley, Cambados, in the Denomination of Origin "Rías Baixas" of Spain.
Really pretty clear pale yellow in the glass. Fairly floral nose. Crisp but fruity on initial taste--some citrus, some stone fruit, some tropical fruit. Nice acid tartness provides the crispness. An easy drinker. US$9.35 at Total WIne
This is the 2010 vintage. Burgans was my first Albarino and still a go to bottle. A bit more saline than I remember, but still refreshing with classic grapefruit and honeysuckle. Would be awesome with a winter fish stew.
Light and crisp
Peach and melon aromas with some floral notes as well. White peach and spice - full of bright acidity and lots of delicious fruit. Very nice wine.
Nice change of pace from the normal varieties I usually find around the house. Even better while watching the virtual tasting and learning more about this region and this variety. To me, very similar to a Pinot Grigio but refreshingly different. Light and soft on the palate with a tropical fruit profile with a hidden spice that I couldn't quite place. For some reason I pulled a slight amount of anise out of it. Subtle but pleasant finish. Easy to drink and quite enjoyable. Will buy this bottle again.
This was my first Albarino, and still a go to bottle. This vintage has more of a saline quality, but still good balance of grapefruit and honeysuckle. Definitely a great seafood match and summer quencher.

The 2011 Albarino begins well with an attractive, well-defined nose with hints of white peach and green apples. The palate is fresh and nicely balanced. It is not a complex Albarino, but it is clean and vibrant with pear and hints of orange peel towards the finish. That will do nicely at this price. Drink now.
This lean white isn’t as exciting or full bodied as in prior years but it’s still a good quaffer. Mild peach and apple aromas lead to a tangy, semi-sharp palate with lemon, orange and underripe nectarine flavors. On the finish, it loses some snap and turns wheaty tasting. Drink immediately.
