Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): Full red. Highly complex aromas of medicinal black cherry, mocha, licorice and black olive, with a roasted aspect and a whiff of celery seed. Sweet, densely packed and concentrated, with lush, seamless dark fruit flavors spreading out to saturate the palate. A big, firmly structured Brunello that finishes with ripe tannins and intriguing hints of iron and peat. (Jul/Aug 2006)

Argiano’s deeply-colored 2001 Brunello di Montalcino offers a pretty, aromatic nose along with notes of super-ripe fruit, sweet toasted oak, vanilla, tobacco and earthiness on a medium bodied frame of notable length and elegance, closing with fine tannins. It strikes a nice balance between modern and traditional styles, offering the flavors of the former and the structure of the latter. Several recent bottles have all been outstanding. It should be at its finest between 2008 and 2016.

Intense aromas of fresh raspberry and sliced mushrooms. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins. Long and structured. Needs time. Best after 2010.
