Brian Carter Cellars Tempranillo Blend Columbia Valley Corrida 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Clean and focused on the nose with lovely raspberry fruit over hints of something a bit gamey and leathery, with hints of peach and cedar adding some detail. Perhaps a touch soft in the mouth, this feels a bit lazy with attractive sour cherry and raspberry fruit over dusty soil tones framed with hints of vanilla and toast. The finish is dry and a little austere. Actually not too far off the mark for Rioja, if a warmer climate Rioja. The finish shows a little fleshiness that may mean this will round out a bit in the future. Well-made, but lacks some complexity and detail. 87pts

On first opening the nose shows cedar spices, cloves and currants with some light smokey toast character. The palate is currants, Asian spices, espresso and semi-sweet chocolate lingering on to a dry finish. One hour later the nose is showing dark currant, smoke, espresso and chocolate with a palate showing similar characteristics to the nose and wraps up with a dry toffee and spice finish. One day later this wine has really bulked up with a nose of dark currant, dusty black cherries and hints of spices, semi-sweet chocolate and espresso. The palate has similar character with a tart cedar Asian spice finish that is slightly acidic that mellows into spiciness with more air.
