Bouchard Pere & Fils Beaune Premier Cru Clos de la Mousse 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse (not Mouche!) is a monopole located toward Pommard where the soils are very shallow, around 25mm deep. The vines here are planted north to south rather than the orthodox east to west. It has very good definition on the nose with scents of mulberry and marmalade, floral scents emerging later. The palate is medium-bodied, lively and vigorous, hints of orange zest and marmalade once again infusing the red berry fruit. The tannins are fine and lithe with good delineation on the vibrant finish. This is very fine." -Wine Advocate (89-91 Points)

The reputation of the Grands Vins fins de Bourgogne is based on two varieties alone : Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As early as 1866, Dr Jules Guyot in his book on viticulture of the centre north of France, wrote that: " the essence of the fine wines of the Côte d'Or, is the grape variety, the Pineau Noir or Noirien for the red wines; the Pineau Blanc or Chardenet for the white wines ". This was a nice, light wine that we really enjoyed with some bread/assorted cheeses, strawberries, blueberries, and chocolate dipping. Picked up at local HEB for $13.95+tax. The pairing with the manchego and chocolate was really excellent. Nose --- well, I'm not an expert by any means but it almost reminds one of a ruby port...but it is a nice, refreshing yet dry, and best of all not an overpowering wine. I'll probably buy a couple more for the cellar, which is more that I can say for other French wines that we've had lately and had bad luck with -- even from the 05 vintages, being too musty or earthy or just overall not that great.

Nice, easy strawberry confit nose with barnyard notes. Deep burgundy color - as befits a burgundy - with good, well integrated tannins upon entry laced with cooking spices, plum and strawberry. There is just a touch of sweetness. All in all, for a village wine, this is a pretty good number - with potential for aging a further 3-5 years under good cellaring conditions.

Quite vegetal on the nose with some fairly prominent strawberry aromas, tangy plum and barnyard notes. There is good color, and upon entry the wine has some residual tannic structure. A bit tart and lacking the unction of some other Clos du Roi, but all in all a good wine of medium to long finish. Will age 3 to 5 more years.

Simple pinot, with bright cherry color. Muted nose of raspberry and clove. Palate of raspberries, eath, and rare beef. Short, juicy finish.

A wine very much European in character. Aromas of the vine and terroir instead of the fruit. Hints of tobacco. Flavors of tobacco or coffee, dark, semi-sweet red fruit and earth. This wine may not be a favorite of people that only know California wines, but it's not bad. I wouldn't turn it down.

A red raspberry-infused nose that is both ripe and elegant complements perfectly the round, rich, supple and generous flavors that coat the palate on the firm and dusty finish. This is also delicious and serious but doesn't quite have the finishing d... Burghound. A Pinot Noir wine from Burgundy in France. 2006 Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune Clos de la Mousse 750ml

A lightly spiced nose of fresh red berry fruit aromas that carry earth and underbrush notes that merge into light to barely medium weight flavors that possess good detail on the dusty and vibrant flavors that have just a touch of acidity poking through on the backend. Burghound.
