Boillot Domaine Henri Volnay Chevrets Pinot Noir Wine 2009

External Review by JJ Buckley Fine Wines:

This premier cru burgundy has a bright garnet hue of moderate depth and a harmonious blend of aromas that exist in wonderful balance. Rose petal forest floor pomegranite arils cherries and cedar are at the forefront of the aroma with a hint of fresh sage showing itself as well. The red fruits transition to the medium bodied palate with soft grained tannins and well-integrated acidity that is just slightly sharp at this youthful stage. This is drinking beautifully now but does require a short while in a decanter to open up and will continue to improve for up to another 10 years. Rick Cronkhite.

Moderate reduction is strong enough to completely hide the fruit though the beautifully detailed fresh and vibrant middle weight flavors don t lack for energy or punch on the almost pungently mineral-infused finish that possesses a velvety and seductive texture. There is good power but there is also a delicate side to this effort. - Comments: Outstanding Burghound.

The 2009 Volnay 1er Cru Chevrets has a noticeably deep color. The nose strides across to meet your senses with potent dark plum and mulberry aromas that are assertive but not overpowering then they soften and become more generous with time. The palate is firm and taut with tart red cherries infused with a touch of soy though I would have liked a little more Volnay corpulence on the finish. Fine. Drink now-2016. - Neal Martin Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Good deep red-ruby. Wild aromas of redcurrant coffee game chocolate and leather; smells like maturing Bordeaux. Deep sappy and extroverted with plenty of tension and ripe acidity to its chewy dark fruit and chocolate flavors. In a distinctly warm ripe style but with superb energy today. Finishes with big tannins and excellent length. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
