Bodegas Montecillo Red 2006
Enjoyed it with a petite fillet. This wine needed to open up. Drinking it the next day was so much better after it had some time to open up.
When I first opened it, it was fruity. Slightly tannic, but balanced overall. Went great with pork.
Full fruit, with a dark oak palate. There's enough tannin here to have a full mouthfeel, and enough flavor to keep in interesting, balanced with good acidity. It's quite juicy in the end, with a good dollop of black fruit, some cocoa, and a pleasant finish.
Deep red/purple color. Somewhat faint nose. Initial sensaton on the tip and early sides of the tongue are puckery dry. As the wine moves over the palate fruit emerges--fig as much as anything. This will be far from my favorite wine, lately. It will be interesting to see if the left over second half of the bottle changes my mind. Went OK with my grilled flank steak sandwich, last night. US$9.99 at Total Wine. [Amendment 9/14/11--OK, the second half of the bottle was better the next day--much more integrated and not as bitter (should have mentioned that in the original comments). So, either 24 hours of air helped the wine or my taster was out of whack the first day. I'll bet it was the latter.]
Earthy and spicy. Versatile red that can pair with non-typical red wine pairings. Like Buffalo wings or ramen soup with pork. Great effort with some light oak that really opens up over the course of a few hours in the decanter.
Ripe red and purple berries on the nose topped with a bit of spicy character that evades onto the palette. Heavy on the tannins but just enough fruit to balance it out.
I loved this wine. Beautiful red color, lots of plum fruit flavors, smooth. Montecillo Rioja Reserva 2003.

Starts with appropriate earth, cherry and vanilla notes, which are followed by spicy cherry, cranberry and raspberry flavors. Shows red fruit in a more traditional style, while the finish is warm, a bit oaky, and ultimately quite fresh.
The 2006 Crianza (100% Tempranillo) offers up a nose of cedar, minerals, and red fruit. A bit lean on the palate but with pleasant flavors and decent balance, it will drink well through 2016.
This supple red shows dark smoke, licorice and espresso flavors, with dried cherry and tobacco notes. This offers lively acidity, enough tannin for grip and a smoky finish. Drink now.
