Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil Juan Gilmonastrell 2007
[91 pts Robert Parker]:A serious effort Juan Gil is fashioned from 45-year-old Mourvedre vines and is aged for 12 months in American and French oak. This rich full-bodied inky/purple-tinged cuvee exhibits aromas of scorched earth blueberries licorice and pepper a savory layered texture and remarkable opulence for a Mourvedre. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.(Robert Parker also gave the 2002 and 2003 vintages 91 pts respectively.)
Full bodied, but the acid adds structure & lift.
Deep color, berry, spice & jammy. A nice somewhat full rich wine, good structure and well balace between tanins, fruit & oak. Nose is rich, earthy and plaseant finish.
Drank as a glass after-dinner. We loved this wine, deep, full body fruit forward with plum and currant, oak notes and very balanced. Nose is rich, pleasantly earthy and berry fruit. We'll get more!

(100% monastrell) Opaque purple. Blueberry, boysenberry and smoky Indian spices on the nose, with a sexy floral quality coming on with air. Juicy, sweet dark berry flavors are framed by velvety tannins and enlivened by zesty minerality. Gains depth and fleshiness with air, finishing on a strong boysenberry note, with excellent sappy persistence. This is delicious right now.
A wine with rich color, abundant ripe fruit aromas, and a long, spicy, well-balanced finish.
