Beaulieu Vineyards Tapestry Red Blend Rated 2007
The Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry weaves together five classic varietals into an opulent, complex wine. The deep, expressive aromas and flavors offer generous layers of black cherry, briary blackberry and cassis character. Enticing floral, licorice, forest loam and graphite nuances are revealed as the aromas open and the flavors expand across the velvety palate. Tapestry elegantly demonstrates the art of blending varietals to create a wine that combines lush, multilayered flavors with supple, graceful tannin structure.
I bought a case of the 2005 late last year and am trying hard to keep it in my cellar and out of my glass. I love it now but feel there is potential for it to get even better with a few more years. I know I am a wine-hoarder but I think this one is worthy of it! The oaky tannins are soft and allow the berry flavors to progress to the front through each sip. I was a little concerned at the 14.4% alcohol content might be a little overwhelming however this wine defies that potential heat. Pairs well with a pungent blue cheese, figs or a big medium rare ribeye. I wish I'd bought more as I'd love to see what this is like in 2015 but I know that just ain't gunna happen! Might want to decant due to minor sediment. Great wine!
