Barton & Guestier Red Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux Contrôlée French Tom Reserve 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Straw colored with golden highlights. Intense and elegant nose, developing fruity notes (dried fruit, nuts), vanilla and toasted bread overtones. A smooth attack leads to a round structure supported by a good acidity. Lively, harmonious and pleasant wine that matches well with fish, chicken or lighter pastas.

Barton & Guestier has a rich history, dating back to the 18th century. Thomas Barton founded his wine-shipping company in 1725, quickly rising to unparalleled levels of success. By 1747, he was considered Bordeaux’s best shipper, and he was the first shipper to have his own wine estates. In 1802, Hugh Barton, Thomas’ grandson, formed a partnership with Daniel Guestier, a French trader, to create Barton & Guestier, now the oldest wine merchant established in Bordeaux. While the company was established in Bordeaux, that’s not where the winemaking ends - it is present in numerous other regions in France, including Loire Valley, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Rhone Valley, Provence, Languedoc, Gascony, and Corsica. This diversity of production grants it a universal appeal, allowing distribution in 130 countries. Laurent Prada, the company’s head winemaker, works in partnership with about 150 winegrowers in France to produce consistent, high-quality wines sourced from all over France. Read less

Meh. Medium and relatively undistinguished fruit and spice. Little finish of note. Not actually bad, but at the price, no star. Fat? I think not.

Wine Tasting NotesThe wine is garnet in color with good intensity. Attractive nose with jammy aromas of raspberry and cherry mixed with cocoa notes of cinnamon. A lovely wine, well balanced, with ripe tannins and intense mouth flavors of fruits and black pepper. A great match with wild game or roasted red meats.

This wine is a full-bodied Red Bordeaux blend. It has a fruit scent with notes of oak and vanilla. Recommended to pair with poultry, red meat, or cheese and serve between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.
