Altos las Hormigas Malbec Clásico 2010
A mild malbec with a faint nose and a bright, inoffensive flavor, quite a good substitute for a cheap bottle of Cahors but likely a touch too acidic for fruit lovers. The key is to leave it open for a day or two – then the wine takes on a velvety yet still very direct quality. (AV 86, http://argovino.com/?p=597)
The first sip revealed a malbec with flavors of black cherry, fading into a concentrated cacophony of spices and chocolate. Full Review here! http://malbeceamos.com/2011/10/27/2010-altos-las-hormigas-malbec/

Good, solid mixed berry fruit, with sweet smoke and spice notes. The round, fleshy finish has a nice brier tint. Textbook introduction to the grape. Drink now.

Opens with tarry, cooked aromas but with airing, oak and ripe, earthy berry notes squeak out. The palate is chewy and solid, with extract and tannic grab as well as smoky, sultry flavors of roasted black fruits and bouillon. Meaty and satisfying.
Light and fresh, with a tasty beam of raspberry and cherry fruit backed by modest, well-integrated toast. There's a nice lingering licorice note. Drink now.

Altos Las Hormigas was conceived in 1995 as a joint project between importer Marc de Grazia, superstar winemaking consultant Attilio Pagli, Le Terrazze owner Antonio Terni, and Alberto Antonini of Antinori. The four Italian partners, recognizing the enormous potential and exciting challenge of old vine Malbec grown in the warm climate of Argentine, began crafting supple, deeply fruited and concentrated wine with the 1997 vintage. As of the 2000 vintage, an increasing percentage of the grapes comes form the group's Las Hormigas vineyard, located at 800 to 900 meters altitude. The winery, now in the final design stages, is projected to be in operation for vinification of the 2002 vintage.
