INAUGURAL RELEASE! In 1998, Pahlmeyer purchased the Wayfarer Vineyard for about $500,000, then spent years preparing the site. His current winemaker, Erin Green, worked with Bob Cabral of Williams Selyem to choose a dozen Pinot clones, and planted using dense spacing and trellising reminiscent of Burgundy.Erin Green, Winemaking Notes: 100% Pinot Noir, the Jayson Pinot Noir is a "declassification" of the Pahlmeyer Pinot Noir. After a meticulous selection process in assembling the final blend of the Pahlmeyer Pinot Noir, Erin Green, determines which to bottle under the Jayson label. The winery never purchases juice or wine to make Jayson wines. Erin describes the wine as having a nose of Bing cherries and rich earth, with blackberry and elegant tannins on the palate; the wine has a long complex finish with touches of plum and spice, with a long elegant finish. "The fruit and acid balance in this wine make it a quintessential Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, lively in the mouth with lots of stuffing and complexity at the same time," she says. Wine Tasting NotesLook for this wine to continue its development at a slow, even pace in bottle for the next 3 to 4 years with the fruit and wood tannins continuing to meld together and creating that silky character. The rich complex fruit character which was clearly enhanced by the warm late growing season makes this vintage particularly voluptuous but is balanced nicely by the high acidity which was maintained. The end result is that this wine will age nicely for years to come.
