Winter Wine Events: Party Across The Nation

If you're traveling this season, check out one or all of these events

It’s winter in the northern hemisphere; kind of a crappy time to go wine touring, though the wines sure do taste good. There still are plenty of wine events happening, so wine lovers need not despair. If you’ve got a hankering for wine and travel right about now, you’ve got two choices: deal with the cold or head south young wine-lover, head south.

Unfortunately, heading south is out of the question for me, and in all honesty right about now a Caribbean island, white sand, and a cold beer sounds a heck of a lot more appealing than driving all day between winery visits! Of course, what my future holds is in fact driving all day between winery visits, with the occasional wine event squeezed in where convenient. Here are several events that I’d like to attend, and some that I am!

The 24th Annual Great Sonoma Crab and Wine Fest

Yes, I want to attend this. Who wouldn’t? Crab, wine, and there are even some auctions to indulge in. I’ve never attended this event, but it’s on my list of events to attend. They even have a giant inflatable crab as part of their venue decorations!

When: February 2, 2013
Where: Sonoma County Fairgrounds - Grace Pavillion, Santa Rosa, CA.

Snooth and Kettle Chips’ Pre-Superbowl Party

San Francisco here I come. I’ll be pouring wine, cocktails, and spirits at 111 Minna Street Gallery on Thursday, January 31. This is a first-of-its kind event, and we’re all looking to have a blast, so let us know if you want to join us—it’s free! I’d love to meet our SF Snooth contingency, so spread the word and bring your friends!

When: January 31, 2013
Where: 111 Minna St, San Francisco, CA

People’s Voice Awards Grand Tasting

Since we’re on the subject of Snooth tasting events, we have a doozy coming up in March.  We’ll be pouring winners and runners-up from Snooth’s 2012 Peoples Voice Wine Awards—wines from the likes of Chappellet, Catena, Jordan, Cantina Terlano, Trimback, and d’Arenberg, to name but a few! We’ll have a selection of fine foods as well, with a really special feature: pairing stations featuring the recipes of some of the finest restaurants in the Cayman Islands.

This is not your father’s Grand Tasting—we’ll have the same great wines but this is going to be FUN!

When: March 23, 2013
Where: The Altman Building, New York NY baby!

San Antonio Wine Festival

San Antonio Texas is overlooked as a travel destination, and that’s too bad in my book. There’s plenty to do there: Six Flags, a river that runs through the city, incredible barbecue—not to mention proximity to Texas wine country and the San Antonio Wine Festival. Who knew? A weekend of food and wine in, hopefully, sunny Texas! Yeah, I could go for that.

When: February 15 – 17, 2013
Where: San Antonio, Texas

South Beach Food & Wine Festival

Now we’re cooking! Literally, as the average high temp in Miami in February is a balmy 77 degrees. This is as close to that Caribbean getaway as I’m likely to get this year. Food, wine, and endless fun under the Florida sun.  Truth be told, this is more of a food festival than a wine festival, but a man’s got to eat, too!

When: February 21 – 24, 2013
Where: Miami, Florida

If people want to try a REAL winter wine event, check out the British Columbia Winter Wine Festival held each January at the Sun Peaks ski resort. Go to sumpeaksresort.com and look under the Events and Festivals heading. Too late for this year, but put it on your calender for next year. Beautiful location with great skiing and accomodation, and great B.C. wine and food events.
