Argentine Malbec

It's the hottest wine since Sideways blew the doors off Pinot Noir!

Malbec has made the big leagues. This misfit grape from France - where it saw a little play as a blending grape in Bordeaux, and yeoman's duty in the often rustic yet robust red of Cahors - has emerged from South America as a polished and complete player in the world of wine. A thin-skinned grape particularly sensitive to rot and late ripening, it has proven to be the ideal partner for the sunny, dry slopes of Argentina's Mendoza region.

What to expect...

Malbec produces dark, richly fruited wines with ample structure. The clones predominant in Argentina yield wines with surprisingly supple and velvety tannins that allow the slightly spicy, rich plummy fruit and lovely balsamic herb tones to shine. They are a natural match for the great steaks of Argentina and have a special affinity for particularly peppery preparations!

Two different takes on Argentine Malbec

Starting from $15.79

Reticent on the nose with hints of dark earth and lurking floral tones. In the mouth it's very supple and seamless with a blanket of pure black raspberry liquor. Finishes with refreshing mineral, anise and peppery tones. Great for smoky grilled steak or even better duck!

Starting from $11.99

Fresh red berry fruit with an aromatic herbal component on the nose recalls a lighter styled Cotes du Rhone. Rather light bodied with cocoa and earth edging the candied red berry and red licorice toned fruit. Has a little spiciness with a sneaky return of cocoa and mint.
