2007 R A Harrison Nobilty Napa/Sonoma CA 14.2% $70/375ml

78% Sauvignon Blanc/22% Semillon

Spicy on the nose at first, with assertive wood tones of ginger, vanilla and cedar. Air brings out waxy yellow fruits, apricots, honey, almonds and dried golden raspberries, with a faint mushroom base note and emerging top notes of thyme and flowers. Syrupy and thick in the mouth, this is rich and dense but lacks some acidity to keep things lively. The flavors absolutely blanket the mouth with treacle, dried peach, dried pineapple, candied ginger and vanilla crème brule flavors. A touch of obvious wood tannin and cedary spice add detail but also clip the finish at this stage. Very ambitious effort. It should improve with age, but will always be weighty. 89pts
