What We've Been Reading

Plus our new Wine of the Week

I get to read a lot. A lot of what I get to read are wine blogs, and many of these blogs are like flipping through a set of photos. No, these are not images worth a thousand words, but rather they are snapshots. Snapshots of wines and like most people's photos, many of the snapshots are a touch off.

Some are overexposed, some lack depth, others a focal point. So many of these snapshots tend to be, well, not so complete or interesting so when I do notice someone who is consistently taking good pics (in this case writing interesting and informative tasting notes), I take notice.

Alexander Velky on the blog Redwine.co.uk is doing just that. Tasting notes like Alexander's are fun to read and worth pointing out, so take a moment and see what he's been saying, most recently about several New Zealand Pinot Noirs.
Visit Redwine.co.uk for all Alexander's articles and more.

Are Iceland's volcanic eruptions threatening vineyards?
First Eyjafjallajökull, now Grimsvotn. What other difficult to pronounce volcano will Iceland spring on us next?  Ever since this time last year, the unpredictable eruptions coming out of this small island nation have been wreaking havoc on many European and trans-Atlantic travelers.  But logistical headaches aside, what many oenophiles want to know is: Are these ash clouds threatening vineyards?

Wine of the week 5/27/11

Well summer has arrived with a vengeance in New York. The humidity is creeping up along with the temperature and that makes me yearn for a light, crisp, refreshing white, and with with modest alcohol, please.
