What We've Been Reading

The Wine Mule + Wine of the Week

The Wine Mule
"Mule" has many meanings, and we're not sure if this blogger leans toward stubbornness or hybridity, but there's no argument that his substance of choice is wine, great wine.

The Wine Mule's years of experience working at the Asheville Wine Market, NC, show in informed, easy-reading tasting notes. His recent departure from the Market means more time for writing.

A recent post on an "Alpine" themed wine dinner got us thinking about seasonal pairings. The dinner is recounted in rich detail: beginning with "Prosecco-based cocktail enlivened and emboldened with a little St. Germain elderflower liqueuer and calvados" paired with crostini topped with lardo, and followed by canederli di speck soup with a Pinot Bianco.

Then there's a "warm, folkloric dish of brussels sprouts, pumpkin, and cheesy croutons, accompanied by an astonishingly good Sylvaner," and Poularde aux Sauce Nantua (chicken in crayfish sauce) with an Arbois Pinot Noir, ending with Savoie gateau grenoblois (walnut cake) and "a yeasty little rosé sparkler". No doubt it will make you wish you were there, too or inspire you!

Wine of the Week: 3/4/11
2005 Bodegas Beronia Rioja Reserva
Rioja, especially a Reserva, is always a classic go-to wine for me since its extended ageing makes it ready to drink on release. Finding a great bottle at such an affordable price makes a wine ever more special, and this bottle is a real winner!

From the looks of it, the Wine Mule is also thinking about Pinot Bianco! Thanks for the link.

Dear Snooth: I've been trying to send email to get on your "Snooth Insiders" list as indicated in today's email, but the link you provided is borked and leaves me at this blank web page: http://campaign.snooth.com/ctrack/l...

How else can I get on board?

Hi rednikki, sorry to hear that link didn't work for you. It should give you a pop-up window of your e-mail service to send us an e-mail at our tastings@snooth.com address. If that doesn't work, you are more than welcome to e-mail me directly at catherine@snooth.com. Hope that helps!
