When and Where Will Your Wedding Be?

People tend to drink more white wine in warmer temperatures and more red wine in cooler temperatures. Of course if you are celebrating in an air conditioned reception hall come summer, it really doesn’t make much of a difference when your wedding is in picking out the wine, but if you might be outside for some or much of the reception your guests will probably go through more white than red wine.

Also consider that in the summer people will gravitate towards a lighter white, Sauvignon Blanc for example, while a rich Chardonnay may be more appropriate for the cooler months. The same thinking holds true with your reds. A big, burly Malbec might be perfect in January but overpowering in July, when a more delicate Pinot Noir would be more appropriate.

One last thought here: consider adding a rosé to the selection during the summer months. Rosés are great wines and great fun. These wines are usually easy to drink and pair with food, can be wonderfully refreshing, and by adding one to the mix you gain a bit more leeway with both your white and red selections.
