Many harvests are safely in the bag, or vat, yet other producers must still hope for sunny skies

There are probably no grapes left to harvest on Santorini but that doesn't mean I don't like to keep track of the near perfect weather.

Last Week's Forecast

Cutchogue, NY

I was out in Long Island's wine country yesterday enjoying the beautiful weather and looks like the rest of the week promise to be just as nice, though the weekend will be bringing some moisture along with it.

Last Week's Forecast

Penn Yan, NY

While it will be warmer int he finger lakes than on the North Fork this week, it will also be damper. Not a trade off I'd want to make.

Last Week's Forecast

Buellton, California

Santa Barbara is certainly surprising. With peaks in the 90s marking some of the warmest days of the year coming in October it's like no other wine region I'm familiar with. And look at those night time lows. Fascinating and worth additional investigation!

Last Week's Forecast

Paso Robles

The weather in Paso is near perfect, still a bit on the warm side perhaps but sunny and very cool at night.

Last Week's Forecast

Lodi, California

Lodi's catching a bit of rain today but the rest of the week looks to be quite fine even if it's a little hot on Saturday.

Last Week's Forecast

Walla Walla, Washington

Lots of rain and cold weather are in store for Walla Walla. I'm not sure this is typical for the region but it will be interesting to see how the menage with these conditions.

Last Week's Forecast

Tokaj, Hungary

Cool, no make that cold weather is in store for Tokaj. Night time lows will be touching the freezing mark on Thursday and Friday, raising the question: Will they be making Ice Wine instead of Eszencia soon?

  • notes from California: The harvest has not been uniformly early this year. Many of our late ripening varieties are already in but then several of our early ripeners are still in the vineyard. We are waiting on Pinot from Carneros (first to second week of September normally)) while our Sierra Foothills Barbera is in barrel already (usually harvests mid October)!

Warm weather in Sonoma and Napa are just what's needed to finish off the last of the harvest. We had a little rain the last couple days, so things need to dry off just a little. We saw some areas that had been completely harvested--all the whites appear to be in--and a few vineyards with big berries still hanging on the vine--given the locale, I would guess PN--as we drove through the RRV this Sunday.
