notes from California: The harvest has not been uniformly early this year. Many of our late ripening varieties are already in but then several of our early ripeners are still in the vineyard. We are waiting on Pinot from Carneros (first to second week of September normally)) while our Sierra Foothills Barbera is in barrel already (usually harvests mid October)!

Warm weather in Sonoma and Napa are just what's needed to finish off the last of the harvest. We had a little rain the last couple days, so things need to dry off just a little. We saw some areas that had been completely harvested--all the whites appear to be in--and a few vineyards with big berries still hanging on the vine--given the locale, I would guess PN--as we drove through the RRV this Sunday.
